Joan Halifax




Joan Halifax Roshi has a background in anthropology and studied with many native peoples. The combination of her anthropological studies and Dharma studies is eloquently presented in her work, "The Fruitful Darkness".
She is the Founder of the Ojai Foundation , the Upaya Zen Center , the Project on Being with Dying , and the Upaya Prison Project. She is on the Board of the under Dr. Richard Evans Schultes . She is author of numerous books, and is a social activist.
