From the creation in 1931 of Manchukuo , the construction of railways was promoted. In December 1935, there existed some 8,500 km of track , 80% are classified as "State Railways" along with the 1,100 km of S. M. R. and 1,760 km of C.E.R. lines. The backbone of the Manchurian railways was the Chinese Eastern Railway (of 12,000 km) constructed by Russians (who sold it to Manchukuo in 1935) and expanded by the Japanese. It later linked with the Peiping-Mukden Railway. The first railway stations were Mukden , Hsinking , Shakakon in the southern area, and Harbin in the north. During this period were projected other new railway lines for making possibly the cut off Trans-Siberian Railway why surrounded the Amur region.
