Horace Hood

Hood joined the Royal Navy in 1883 serving on ''Temeraire'' , and ''Hyacinth'' . In 1889 , as a Midshipman , he served on ''Calliope'' during the Samoan Hurricane .

In World War I, Hood took part in the defence of Flanders and the Battle Of The Yser . He commanded the Third Battlecruiser Squadron of Sir John Jellicoe 's Grand Fleet . He died along with all but six of the crew of his Flagship ''Invincible'' when she exploded at the Battle Of Jutland .
