George, Emperor Of Trebizond

He succeeded his half brother Andronicus II in 1266 . George was betrayed by the nobles on one of his campaigns against the Turkmen of Taurus mountains. When the trapezuntine army was suddenly attacked, they fled and left George defeated and taken prisoner in 1280 . His younger brother John II replaced him.

He was released by the Turkmen in 1284 to create discord in Trebizond, because he still had some support among the disaffected nobles. However, he was defeated again and his army destroyed, but George himself managed to escape and spent a while wandering the mountains before he was captured. We know nothing of him since then.
