Information About

Premier Padmini

Premier Padmini was an automobile manufactured in India from 1968 to 2000

Premier Automobiles Limited tried to break the monopoly of Hindustan Motors in India . Premier Automobiles Limited partnered with Fiat and introduced the derived model of Fiat 1100 . This four-cylinder inline petrol engine had a displacement of 1089 cc. The maximum power that could be attained was 40 Bhp (30 kW) @ 4800 rpm with a maximum Torque of 7.20 Kgf ·m (70.6 N·m ) @ 3000 rpm. The transmission was a four-speed manual with a rear wheel drive. With a weight of 8950 kg the car could attain speeds of 105 km/h.

The car became the preferred choice for the upwardly mobile and affluent class who did not want to pay a higher price for an imported car but also wanted something sleek in comparison to Hindustan Motors' Ambassador. The car was soon ruling the roads and its manufacturing facility at Chincwad near Pune , Kurla in Mumbai and Dombivili in Thane District were thriving. Premier stopped manufacturing the Padmini as of 2000. However they are still used as Cabs in Mumbai . Many of these cabs now run on CNG and not on Petrol due to the orders passed by the Indian Courts to protect the environment.
