Oana Ban

Oana Miahela Ban (born January 11 , 1986 in Cluj-Napoca ) is a Romanian gymnast, who made her international senior debut in 2002, where she won a silver on beam in the World Championships. The next year, Ban won a silver with her team in the world championshps in Anaheim , and placed fifth in the all around.

During her career she specialised on floor and beam, where she was renowned for her difficult tumbling and fast paced, crowd pleasing dance. Like many Romanian gymnasts she was not a strong bars worker. Typically Romania produces strong vaulters, such as Simona Amanar and Monica Rosu . But despite being an obviously powerful gymnast, as her tumbling illustrates, Oana was not one of them.

Oana's career highlight came in the , Alexandra Eremia , Catalina Ponor , Daniela Sofronie and Silvia Stroescu . In Athens, she scored a 9.187 on the uneven bars, a 9.512 on the balance beam and a 9.437 on the floor exercise. She also qualified to the all around in third place, and to floor finals. But she was unable to advance because of an injury sustained performing on the last piece of apparatus in team finals. Medals in both were possible (her floor score in qualifiation would have won her a silver in finals).

Oana retired after Athens and is currently pursuing her education.
