Jon Hassler





BIOGRAPHY


Hassler was born in Minneapolis, but spent his formative years in the Minnesota small towns of , then Brainerd Community College (now called Central Lakes College ), and finally at Saint John's, where he has been the Writer-in-Residence since 1980.

During his high-school teaching years, Hassler married and fathered three children. His first marriage lasted 25 years; he has since remarried twice. His current wife is Gretchen Kresl Hassler.

Since 1994, Hassler has suffered from Progressive Supranuclear Palsy , a Parkinson's -like disease that claimed the life of actor Dudley Moore . Hassler's writing ability has not been greatly diminished by the disease, although he has vision and speech problems as well as difficulty walking.
