Elysian Park is a Park and surrounding Neighborhood in Central Los Angeles . Located next to Chavez Ravine where Dodger Stadium is located, Elysian Park is mostly a hillside community that is home to the Los Angeles Police Department Academy. The park itself is the second largest park in Los Angeles at 600 acres (2.4 km&2). It is also the city's oldest park, founded in 1886 by the Elysian Park Enabling Ordinance. In 1964 the Citizens Committee to Save Elysian Park was founded to prevent the City of Los Angeles from Constructing the Municipal Convention Center on 62-acres of park land. Parkside residents enjoy the large and fruitful Avocado trees that grow in the park. Elysian Park is bordered by Echo Park on the west and the south, Chinatown on the east and Atwater Village on the north. The Figueroa Street Tunnels take northbound State Route 110 (the Pasadena Freeway ) through the park. The northbound lanes are higher, in a cut. EXTERNAL LINKS |
