Information About

College Rugby

Unlike most college sports, rugby is not governed by the NCAA ; it is sponsored by USA Rugby . For this reason, college players can also play professionally in the United States or abroad. It is played in 7s or 15s and most colleges and universities field a team (sometimes with second, third, and even fourth XV's). These schools are broken down by the strength of their Rugby Union program. Similar to the NCAA, there are divisions. Division I consists of the strongest programs and there are Divisions II and III for small programs and less talented teams. Unlike the NCAA, however, and similar to the English Premier League , the team that wins its division moves up to the next highest division and the team with the fewest points drops down to the next lowest division.
