Angela Bettis (born January 9 , 1975 in Austin, Texas ) is an American Actress best known for her lead role in the horror film '' May '', for which she received several Best Actress awards at various film festivals. She has also directed and produced other films. She appeared in a minor role in the movie '' Girl, Interrupted '' alongside Winona Ryder and Angelina Jolie . 2002 saw Angela playing the lead role of Carrie White in the '' Carrie '' remake, an NBC telemovie. She also starred in the lead role in the 2004 remake of '' Toolbox Murders '' which was directed by Tobe Hooper . In 2005 , Angela made her feature length directorial debut with '' Roman '', starring Lucky McKee (director of May). Bettis is a graduate of The American Musical And Dramatic Academy .
