Training Group Raf




The Training Group of the Royal Air Force is the group that controls the stations of Personnel And Training Command . It was formed on 1 April 1994 from the AOC Training Units with Personnel and Training Command its parent unit.

Also known as the Training Group Defence Agency (TGDA), the group has four functional pillars:
  • Flying Training

  • Ground Training

  • RAF College & Recruitment

  • Air Cadets

  • RAF Officer on the Agency Management Board.


The Defence College of Communications and Information Systems (DCCIS) joined the Training Group from 1st April 2006. Any changes to the functional pillars as a result of this have yet to be announced.

The TGDA is led by Air Vice-Marshal John Ponsonby who is Chief of Staff (Training) / Air Officer Commanding Training Group / Chief Executive TG. AVM Ponsonby is responsible to the Agency owner, the Air Member For Personnel , who is also Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief Personnel & Training Command .
