He is the author of 13 novels and two works of non-fiction, including the best-seller , later made into a successful movie. He won a Somerset Maugham Award in 1970 for his book Monk Dawson. In 1988 he was awarded a James Tait Black Memorial Prize for his book, A Season in the West. In 2003 his authorized biography of the actor, Alec Guinness , was published. He has four children, and lives in West London. |
