Two feast days celebrated by the Roman Catholic Church honor the Chair of Peter, listed in the '' Martyrologium Hieronymianum '', the emblem of the superiority of the Bishop Of Rome as the Vicar Of Christ and the successor of Saint Peter . Roman Catholics believe that Saint Peter became the first Pope when Jesus said after the Resurrection , "You are Peter, and upon this Rock I will build my Church and the gates of Hell shall not prevail against it. To you have I entrusted the keys of the Kingdom Of Heaven ."

The feast of the Chair of Saint Peter at Rome is celebrated on January 18 . The feast of the Chair of Saint Peter at Antioch is celebrated on February 22 . The Apostle Saint Paul is also commemorated in the liturgies of both feasts.
