In the United Kingdom Parliament the Lords Temporal are secular members of the House Of Lords due to appointment as Life Peers or Inheriting the title as an Hereditary Peer . This differentiates them from the Lords Spiritual , who are members by virture of their status as Bishop s in the Church Of England . Prior to the recent Reform of the House of Lords, all Peer s were (potentially) members of the House of Lords, and all were Lords Temporal in this sense. The ongoing reforms limit membership in the Lords to Life Peers and a number of elected Hereditary Peers, the term seems to apply to those secular Lords who retain membership in the House of Lords. |
