Information About

Lacoste, Vaucluse

Lacoste () is a small, medieval town and Commune in the Provence in Southern France . It belongs to the Vaucluse '' Département '' and has some 400 inhabitants.

Lacoste is probably best known for its most notorious resident, the Marquis De Sade , who in the 18th Century lived for a while in the castle overlooking the village.
The castle was destroyed in an uprising in 1792 . In the 1990 s, the ruins along with attached quarrys were bought by fashion designer Pierre Cardin , and since 1994 various theatre pieces have been performed there.

The Marquis fancied Lacoste as a destination for Thespians , which has in some small part become true. An art school was founded there in the 1970s and today is part of the Savannah College Of Art And Design .
